APA Accredited Pre-Doctoral Internship

RAAP offers a full-time (45 hour), one year, pre-doctoral internship position. This position is affiliated with the University of Denver's APA accredited consortium. It is a captive site, open exclusively to the University of Denver's Psy.D. program.

The internship position available at RAAP is intended to support our mission of eliminating sexual violence. As the only rape crisis center in metro-Denver since 1983, RAAP has served over 423,000 individuals with services that assist victims of sexual assault and programs that educate the public about preventing sexual violence. Therefore, this internship position is designed to integrate both RAAP's mission and the student's career goals and interests as they pertain to working primarily with women's issues and trauma. The internship position is comprised of the following rotations:

Major Rotation: Outpatient Therapy
Outpatient Therapy: The outpatient therapy rotation is an eighteen hour per week clinically based rotation. This major rotation runs the entire length of the internship year. It consists of completing intakes, answering hotline calls, training hotline volunteers, conducting long and short term therapy, group therapy, and supervising practicum students. If interested, the intern may also provide crisis intervention and victim advocacy/case management by escorting victims to hospitals, police stations or court.

Minor Rotations:
Grant Writing: Grant writing is a ten hour per week, four month, minor rotation. This rotation includes working closely with the grants manager to generate and maintain funding for RAAP through grants from government agencies, VALE Boards, private foundations, and other funding agencies. The intern's responsibilities include creating grant proposals, writing a quarterly grant report, analyzing program statistics, and researching new funding sources.

Prevention/Education: Prevention/Education is a ten hour per week, four month, community psychology based, minor rotation. This rotation consists of teaching developmentally appropriate curriculum to ages three to adult, designed to prevent sexual violence. Additionally, the intern will learn to assess program outcomes and analyze data in an attempt to measure the efficacy of the curriculum. This rotation may include some outreach and collaborative curriculum development with local colleges and universities.

Outreach/Consultation: Outreach/Consultation is a ten hr per week, four month, minor rotation. This rotation consists of developing and implementing outreach programs to underserved populations. Additionally, the intern has the opportunity to act as a consultant to various community groups in the areas of dynamics of rape, rape trauma syndrome, teen victimization and childhood sexual abuse.

Additional Responsibilities:
Supervision: In accordance with APA standards, the intern is required to attend four hours of weekly supervision. Two of these hours are individual supervision and two are group supervision. Group supervision is aimed at guiding and developing the intern's ability to supervise practicum students.

Staff Meetings: The intern is required to attend two hour weekly staff meetings and victim services meetings.

Case Conference: The intern is required to attend a bi-weekly, one and a half hour case conference where victim services staff discuss relevant clinical issues and cases.

Assessments: In accordance with APA standards, the intern is required to complete four assessment batteries. These batteries should emphasize the assessment of trauma symptoms as expressed in tests such as the WAIS, Rorschach, Thematic Apperception Test, MMPI, and specific trauma symptom inventories. If desired by the intern, at least one assessment battery may be a Learning Disability assessment completed at the University of Denver's Counseling Center.

Seminars: The intern will attend seminars in the following concentrations: research, multicultural issues, assessment and professional issues. These seminars are provided by the University of Denver and are held on Friday's.

Doctoral Paper: Three hours per week will be provided to the intern to work on his or her doctoral paper or research project.
